Winter is here, and we love it! South Lake Tahoe has all winter activities from skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling and snowshoeing to cozying up next to a roaring fire after a long day outside. We’ve put together a South Lake Tahoe activity checklist to keep you busy all season long!
1. Guided Snowmobile Tour
Schedule your very own guided snowmobile tour through Lake Tahoe Adventures this winter season. Whether you choose to go with their Summit Tour or the Ultimate Tour, you’ll be able to experience fresh white powder, and incredible Lake Tahoe scenery like you never have before. Explore the mountain meadows of South Lake Tahoe with peaks that reach 8,500 feet above sea level. Whether you’re an experienced snowmobiler just looking for the best routes and views or new to the sport and ready for a helpful guide along the way, Lake Tahoe Adventures offers the perfect tours for everyone!
2. Skiing & Snowboarding
Winter in Lake Tahoe is associated with skiing and snowboarding, so get your lift tickets and strap on your skis or board for your next trip! We’re a quick 8-mile drive from Heavenly Mountain Resort. There are 97 trails to explore, with 28 chairlifts and 4,800 skiable acres, which is the most available in Lake Tahoe!
If downhill skiing isn’t your thing, or you need a quieter day, try cross-country skiing. Our Mountain Sports Center offers half-day and full-day rentals for adult and child cross-country skis! We also turn our summer bike trails into miles and miles of skiing and snowshoeing trails for you to explore here at Camp Rich!
3. Snowshoeing
Are you looking to slow things down for a bit? Explore Camp Rich and all of South Lake Tahoe by snowshoe! We have endless terrain for you to explore on our summer bike trails or venture further out. Bijou Park is only about 13 minutes from Camp Richardson, the perfect location for you to set out on your DIY adventure. Pioneer Trail is also a popular destination for snowshoers, which is about 12 minutes away from Camp Richardson. If you need snowshoes, Mountain Sports Center at our resort also has snowshoe rentals!
4. Ice Skating
Grab skates and learn how to ice skate at Heavenly Village this winter! Heavenly Village is a family-friendly destination located at the base of the Heavenly Mountain Resort Gondola. It’s full of fantastic restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and a gorgeous ice skating rink! Enjoy relaxing music, magical lights, and an authentic winter wonderland atmosphere! Gather your family and friends and experience a night to remember!
5. Winter Sports Park
Take a trip to Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe for a day full of fun winter activities. Adventure Mountain offers groomed sledding/tubing runs, sled/tube rentals, snow play, and SNOW much fun! Located just 11 miles from Camp Richardson, Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe is a perfect day trip for your family, where many winter adventures await!
6. Celebrate Snowfest
One of the best winter events in Lake Tahoe is Snowfest! Snowfest has been happening since 1982 and is a festival many of our winter lovers look forward to year after year. Across ten days, more than 100 events are hosted in Tahoe City, with everything from parades, to laser shows, ski races, and a polar bear swim. Any fun winter activity you can think of is most likely put on during Snowfest. This classic Tahoe winter event is usually scheduled from the end of February to the beginning of March, so mark your calendars, and book your stay with Camp Richardson!
7. Book at Camp Rich and Stay Cozy
Richardson House – With so many Lake Tahoe winter activities to do, you must find the perfect place to stay! The Richardson House is a favorite spot for groups of up to 20! With 7 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, this is an incredible Tahoe rental home. Maybe you’re in the mood for something a bit more charming?
South Lake Tahoe Hotel – Our South Lake Tahoe Hotel was built in 1926 and is the perfect spot for experiencing actual 1920s Old Tahoe charm! There’s something special about the Grand Hall’s great room and fireplace after a day of snow fun!
Beachside Inn – The Beachside Inn offers incredible views of Lake Tahoe and quick access to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing!
South Lake Tahoe Duplex – Right next to the Marina, we also have a two-story, side-by-side South Lake Tahoe duplex for rent. One side sleeps 6, but you can rent both sides for bigger groups!
South Lake Tahoe Cabins – Of course, our iconic year-round cabins are also available for booking and sleep 2 to 8 people. Most cabins have gas fireplaces to keep you cozy, and none of them have TVs, so you can stay focused on getting out to have fun!
